New Delhi:

All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Delhi PC Chacko on Friday confirmed that there will be no alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi for the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 as it is going back on its stand. “We are compelled to go on our own as AAP is going back on its stand,” Chacko said.

Chacko clarified that the decision to alone in Delhi was taken after the AAP insisted on forming alliance in other states also.

"AAP wanted to have an alliance in other states also which is not practical. Every state is different; we will announce the seats tomorrow or day after tomorrow. If they are ready for an alliance in Delhi with Congress, we are ready even today," Chacko said.

Chacko also said that party chief Rahul Gandhi had authorized him to negotiate with AAP to prevent a split in the anti-BJP votes.

Earlier on Thursday, PC Chacko and Delhi Congress chief and former chief minister Sheila Dikshit held a meeting with Congress president Rahul Gandhi at his residence.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP has proposed to give two seats to Congress which has instead demanded three - New Delhi, Chandni Chowk and North East Delhi, sources in both the parties claimed. The rationale behind an alliance between the two parties is that together they polled more votes than the BJP which swept the 2014 Lok Sabha elections winning all the seven seats in Delhi.
