New Delhi:

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his “Abdullahs and Muftis” statement and pointed out that the BJP had joined forces with both on several instances in the past.

Addressing a rally in Kathua, Modi on Sunday slammed the Abdullahs and Muftis, saying the two families “ruined” three generations of Jammu and Kashmir and he will not allow them to "divide" India. PM Modi said the people of J&K cannot be kept hostage or bounded labourers to some "handful of people".

The prime minister was referring to National Conference leader Omar Abdullah's demand for a separate prime minister for Jammu and Kashmir and Mehbooba Mufti's remark that abrogation of article 370 can lead J&K free from India.

Omar took to Twitter to remind Modi of the BJP’s alliance with the PDP and that it backed the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti to become the state’s chief ministers.

“This is how much Modi ji believes what he says. Look how happy he is to seal an alliance with one of the families he wants to rid J&K politics of,” he wrote on Twitter while sharing a photograph of Modi hugging PDP founder late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

The BJP and the PDP combine formed the government in 2015 and made Mufti Mohammad Sayed the chief minister. After his death, his daughter Mehbooba Mufti took over the charge.

Mehbooba also reacted to Abdullah’s tweet by sharing a picture of Modi and Omar with a bouquet of flowers with the comment: “Exhibit B. Modi ji looks thrilled to be greeted by a dynast.”

The bright future of Jammu and Kashmir can be ensured only after their departure. They can bring their entire clan into the field, can abuse Modi as much as they want but they won't be able to divide this nation, the prime minister said.
