The Election Commission announced the schedule for the highly anticipated Lok Sabha elections on Sunday, kick-starting a mega electoral battle which is shaping up to be a "Modi versus rest" showdown.
All eyes are now on May 23 – the day counting of votes will be done to decide whether the Narendra Modi-led BJP government manages another term at the Centre or a revived Congress, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, manages to return to power.
At this time, News Nation has come up with its opinion poll which will give an idea of the nation’s mood and an approximation on how the parties may perform in the elections.  Â
Himachal Pradesh: BJP - 4 seats, Congress - 0 seats
Haryana: BJP - 6 seats, Congress - 2 seats, INLD - 1 seat, JJP - 1 seat
Uttar Pradesh: SP-BSP-RLD alliance to dent NDA's sentiments in UP. BJP may win 35 seats, SP-BSP-RLD may win 43 seats
Bihar: NDA is likely to win 29 seats, UPA may win 10 seats
Odisha: BJP is expected to win 9 seats while Naveen Patnaik's BJD may win 12 seats
West Bengal: BJP - 9 seats, TMC - 29 seats, Congress - 2 seats
Jammu and Kashmir: The BJP is expected to win 3 of the 6 seats. Congress, NC and PDP may win one seat each.
Assam: BJP - 7 seats, Congress - 4 seats, AIUDF - 2 seats
Gujarat: BJP is likely to win 21 seats (49% vote share) while the Congress may win 5 seats (41% vote share).
Kerala: UPA is expected to win 15 of the 20 seats while the CPM-LDF alliance may win 4 seats. The BJP will win only one seat, according to the opinion poll.
Karnataka: BJP - 15 seats, Congress-JDS alliance - 13 seats
Telangana: TRS - 14 seats, BJP - 1 seat, Congress - 2 seats; Expected vote share: TRS - 47%, BJP - 7%, Congress - 28%
Andhra Pradesh: YSRCP - 16 seats, BJP - 2 seats, Congress - 1 seat
Tamil Nadu: NDA likely to win 15 seats (38% vote share), UPA may win 24 seats (41% vote share)
In Chhattisgarh, the NDA is expected to win 5 seats while the UPA may claim victory on 6 seats. Expected vote share: BJP - 41%, Congress - 42%, Others - 5%
In Madhya Pradesh, BJP is likely to win 21 of the 29 seats, while the Congress may win only 8 seats. Vote share: BJP - 41%, Congress - 35%
In Rajasthan, BJP is expected to win 17 of the 25 seats while Congress may win only 8 seats, according to the opinion poll. BJP's vote share is likely to stand at 40 per cent in the state, while Congress may get 36 per cent votes.
NDA may get 34 per cent vote share, UPA may get 28 per cent vote share and Others may get 29 per cent vote share, according to opinion poll.
As per the opinion poll, NDA is expected to win 270 seats, falling short of the majority mark of 272. UPA is expected to win 134 seats, while others may win 139 seats.
