Taking a sharp dig at the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday dubbed its manifesto as a “hypocrisy document” which was “full of lies”. The prime minister was addressing a rally in Arunachal Pradesh’s Pasighat. Talking about the Rahul Gandhi-led party’s manifesto for the 2004 Lok Sabha Election that had promised that every house would have electricity by 2009, but till 2014 around 18,000 houses were unelectrified. “Just like them (the Congress), their manifesto is corrupt and full of lies. Therefore, it should be called hypocrisy document, not a manifesto,” Modi said.
The prime minister also charged that the Congress was fooling farmer in the name of votes, whereas the BJP government has always been with them.
“We never committed the sin of betraying farmers but we introduced the mechanism from seed to market,” the PM said. PM Modi said the upcoming Lok Sabha polls will be about the choice between “trust and corruption, and about resolution and conspiracy”.
The Congress party on Tuesday released its much-awaited manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Terming the manifesto a marriage of "wealth and welfare", the Congress party said that it will "address the concerns of the farmers, youth, women, industries, minorities, healthcare, foreign policy, national security among others." In the manifesto, which was prepared after taking inputs from over 62 lakh people, the Congress party announced a separate budget for farmers. "The manifesto is a massive step for Congress. When we started this process a year back, I told them that this manifesto should reflect the wishes of the people and whatever is present in the document should be truthful,” Rahul Gandhi said during the launch event.
