New Delhi :

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh (east) on Tuesday visited Vindhyavasini Devi temple in Mirzapur. Priyanka, who is considered as second most important face in Congress after her brother and party President Rahul Gandhi, performed 'aarti' at the temple. Later, she visited the Dargah of Maulana Ismail Chisti in Bhadohi's Kantit area and interacted with people there.

From Bhadohi, the Congress leader will then again be back to steamer ride from Mirzapur. She will interact with advocates at Kachahri Ghat in the district and then visit Bhatauli village and meet people there.

Thereafter, the newly-appointed general secretary will reach Chandrika Devi temple and interact with people after offering her prayers there. After leaving Chandrika Devi temple, Priyanka will reach Devri in Mirzapur and interact with local villagers there before arriving at Chunar for the night halt.

Meanwhile, pro-Modi slogans were raised by BJP supporters gathered outside a temple on Tuesday as Priyanka Gandhi offered prayers. As Priyanka got out of her car outside the Vindhyavasini Devi Temple, eight kilometres from here, hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers started shouting slogans hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The slogan shouting continued even as she entered the temple to pray.

Earlier in the day, the 47-year-old - who had embarked on a three-day boat journey on Ganga to reach out to the electorate residing on the river banks - offered prayers at the Sita Samahit Sthal in Bhadohi.

In a related development, a group of lawyers had handed a letter to the Varanasi District Magistrate, claiming that Priyanka Gandhi should not be allowed to enter the Kashi Vishwanath temple as she is a Christian.

The letter claimed that Priyanka was a Christian and she should be stopped from entering the temple, keeping in mind the ancient values of Sanatan Dharma. The letter, addressed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, stated that her place of worship was a church.
