As political ardour is gaining pace ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 across India, News Nation has conducted an opinion poll in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. With General Elections 2019 knocking at the door, the burning question of the moment is who will be the top choice for prime minister in the states? Other relevant factors include the biggest ongoing issues in Himachal and Punjab, list of achievements and developmental works of the existing governments, and the politically sensitive Rafale fighter jet deal among others. In Himachal Pradesh, the Jai Ram Thakur-led BJP government has been in power since 2017 while Punjab is one of the five Congress-governed states across the country. Captain Amarinder Singh has been ruling Punjab since 2017.

As per the News Nation poll survey in Himachal Pradesh, the BJP is projected to win 3 seats whereas the Congress may bag 1. As far as the vote share is concerned, the survey shows that the BJP is likely to get 41 per cent votes followed by the Congress (35%) and others (8%). When it comes to the most favourable prime ministerial candidate in 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Himachal chooses Narendra Modi with 47 per cent votes. However, 35 per cent people in the state said they want Rahul Gandhi to run the country.
