Congress President Rahul Gandhi will visit Assam on Tuesday and kick-start his campaign in the state ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. He will address a poll rally at Khanapara veterinary field in Guwahati at 11 am and will also hold a discussion with the Northeast Congress Coordination Committee, a forum of Congress leaders from the North-eastern states around 3 pm. “We are expecting around 1 lakh people from the different districts of the state for this rally,” said APCC President, Ripun Bora.

Bora had on Monday morning flagged off a Prachar Yatra in which at least three mini trucks with banners of the party president’s picture and the party’s election songs — two numbers released by Assam PCC last week — set out from Rajiv Bhawan and made rounds of the city inviting people to participate in the mega rally. “The leader who stood firm and defeated the anti-constitutional Citizenship (Amendment) Bill will visit Guwahati and will talk on how the Congress can protect Assam from the BJP,” said the recorded invite that played in a loop between the election songs in the min-trucks as reported by The Telegraph.

Bora stated in a press meet, “If any decisions for the upliftment of the citizens of Northeast, especially Assam needs to be taken, then we will not dither from it. We will not create allies with any other political parties; however, AGP is still under observation.”

Former chief minister of Uttarakhand and AICC general secretary of Assam Harish Rawat said, “Rahul Gandhi will bring a new wind of change for the people of Assam and the Northeast.”
