A day after Congress Working Committee (CWC) unanimously rejected his offer to resign as Congress president following the grand old party’s dismal performance in the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, Rahul Gandhi on Sunday took back his offer to quit party post.
According to a report by news agency IANS, responsibility will be fixed for the party's debacle in the general elections and actions will unfold in the next 10 days.
Gandhi had offered to step down from the party President's post at the crucial meeting of Congress's highest decision-making body, taking responsibility for Congress' embarrassing defeat in the Lok Sabha polls.
However, his offer was unanimously rejected by the CWC members though Gandhi had insisted on its acceptance, reported IANS. According to reports, various leaders urged Rahul Gandhi to continue to provide leadership.
Party sources said that Gandhi took back the offer to resign in the wake of the views expressed by the CWC members.
There were reports that Rahul Gandhi was adamant on his stand of resigning from the chief's post but party leaders rubbished these saying he is not leaving as the CWC has already passed a resolution reposing faith in him.
The CWC ‘unanimously’ called upon the Rahul Gandhi to lead the party in its ideological battle and to champion the cause of youths, farmers, SCs, STs, OBCs, minorities, poor and deprived sections.
The resolution also accepted with humility the mandate of the people and expressed gratitude to 12.13 crore voters who stood behind the party.
