Samajwadi Party leader Jaya Bachchan on Tuesday took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that in the current atmosphere the one who is responsible for safeguarding the nation, is himself creating the chaos. "The responsibility of a protector is very significant and crucial. At this point in time, the one who is responsible for protecting the nation is the one who is creating chaos and disorder," she said in a veiled attack on Modi.
Addressing a rally in support of 'Mahagathbandhan' candidate Poonam Sinha in Lucknow, Bachchan said that Samajwadi Party has a tradition to welcome new entrants and appealed voters to ensure Sinha’s victory.
"Samajwadi's tradition is to welcome new candidates wholeheartedly. We always welcome them and ensure their victory. We ensure our candidates that no matter where all of you come from, you are a part of SP and we will protect you," she said.
The actor-turned-politician also urged people to come out in large numbers to vote on polling day and support all the SP candidates who are contesting the Lok Sabha elections.
"The enthusiasm and zeal what you are showing today, I want to see this zeal while voting. You all have to support our candidates who are contesting, with the same amount of enthusiasm and prove that Samajwadi workers are with them," she asserted.
Poonam Sinha had joined the Samajwadi Party on April 16, days after her husband Shatrughan Sinha quit the BJP and came to the folds of Congress party. She has been pitted against Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Lucknow.
