The results of 2019 Lok Sabha elections, which were held in seven phases from April 11 to May 19, will be announced today by the Election Commission of India. The BJP is hopeful of victory in the tiny state of Tripura, which sends two seats to the Lok Sabha and had been a Left citadel. The state went to polls on April 18. BJP takes lead in both seats
For the first time in the hisotry, the BJP is leading in both the seats in Tripura.
Counting of votes begins
The counting of votes for the two parliamentary seats in Tripura has begun. First of all, postal votes will be counted first.
Tripura, a key northeastern state
The North East send 25 MPs to the LokSabha. Assam sends 14 MPs, Arunachal, Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur each send two, and Sikkim, Nagaland and Mizoram send one each.
In Tripura, doctor caught red-handed doing abortion
Meanwhile, Tripura Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman and a team of senior health officials caught a doctor red-handed conducting an abortion in the labour room of a govt health centre in Santirbazar,South Tripura during a surprise visit. The doctor has been identified as Dr. Ajay Biswas.
