Angry over authorities not paying heed to their demand of building a bridge, the residents of a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district have threatened to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to be held in seven phases starting from April 11, 2019.
Yogender Nagar village in Muzaffarnagar is located near the Solani River. The residents of the village have long been demanding a bridge over the river as they face problems in getting across. However, the authorities ignored their demand forcing them to take the decision to boycott the polls.
The decision was taken at a panchayat meeting, headed by the sarpanch of the village and held in presence of villagers. Pratap Singh, a resident of the village said, “Since the village is located near the river, residents face problems in getting across. These problems are aggravated during the monsoon season.
The 2019 Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held in seven phases from 11 April 2019 to 19 May 2019. The counting of votes will take place on May 23 and the results of the elections will be declared the same day.
