Uttarakhand Opinion Poll: Modi clear favourite as BJP may sweep state again in Lok Sabha Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to secure a landslide victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Uttarakhand, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi emerging as a clear favourite for the second term, according to the News Nation opinion poll. The BJP, which had swept all the five seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, may win four seats this General Elections, likely to be held in less than three months. According to the News Nation opinion poll, the BJP may secure 42 per cent of the vote share followed by the Congress (34 per cent), others (7 per cent), can't say (17 per cent).

The opinion poll also found that 52 per cent people want Narendra Modi to continue as the Prime Minister, while only 23 per cent people think Congress president Rahul Gandhi should be the next PM. Forty-five per cent of the people surveyed are satisfied with the work of BJP government in the state, while 31 per cent are not happy with the state government’s work. Twenty-four per cent of the people said they can’t say.  



However, when it comes to the NDA government’s work at the Centre, less than 50 per cent (49 per cent) of the people said they were satisfied, while 39 per cent are unhappy with government’s work.  

When asked about the biggest issue which they will keep in mind while voting for Lok Sabha Elections, 29 per cent people voted for employment. It is followed by inflation (13 per cent), corruption (11 per cent), PM candidate (11 per cent), GST-Demonetisation (8 per cent), migration (7 per cent), farmers (6 per cent), general caste quota (5 per cent).

According to the opinion poll, 39 per cent of the people believe the BJP can address their issues, followed by the Congress.

However, more than 40 per cent of the people think the Modi government has failed to give a fitting reply to China and Pakistan.

The people of Uttarakhand were also asked about their opinion on the Rafale fighter jets deal, which remained one of the main weapons of the Congress to target the Modi government. More than 35 per cent (37 per cent) of the people think Rahul Gandhi’s allegations against government have substance, while 35 per cent people think the substances were baseless.

The state, which was formed in the year 2000, witnessed its third Lok Sabha polls on May 7. In the year 2004, the BJP won three seats, and the Congress and the Samajwadi Party won one seat each. In the year 2009, the Congress had won all five seats in the state.
