The Congress on Monday moved the Supreme Court against the Election Commission’s alleged ‘inaction’ over poll code violation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah. Congress lawmaker Sushmita Dev has filed a plea in the top court. Dev claimed that the duo used armed forces for political propaganda but the Election Commission didn't pay heed to various complaints. According to an NDTV report, Dev in her plea said that PM Modi and Shah used "hate speech" at rallies to polarise voters, and referred to the operations by the armed forces in their "political propaganda" despite the poll body's ban.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said it would hear the petition of Dev tomorrow. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Dev, alleged that Modi and Shah have violated the Model Code of Conduct and the Election Commission is not acting on her complaint. Singhvi said four weeks have passed since the Model Code of Conduct was enforced in the country and both the prime minister and Shah have been allegedly violating the code. To this, the bench said it will hear the plea on Tuesday.
