Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 was finally released on November 29 in several languages on more than 10,000 screens across the globe. Rajinikanth will be seen reprising the role of doctor Vaseegaran and Chitti while Akshay will be making his South Indian cinema debut with an antagonist role. On the opening day of its release, the movie received huge occupancy rate across the nation including single screens and multiplexes despite releasing on a non-holiday and non-festival day. If the movie continues to run successfully with the same pace, it is expected that 2.0 will break all records and become one of the biggest films of Indian cinema.
#2point0 Budget is HUGE 550 cr. Film is doing good business but to get a HIT tag it should have created HAVOC at the BO, unfortunately it is not happening. Film day-1 Collection was good, Day-2 has a All Ind drop of appx 15%. Film is heading towards FLOP verdict. Sad but true.— Sumit kadel (@SumitkadeI) November 30, 2018
However, on the second day, the movie registered little drop in the occupancy level and trade analyst Sumit Kadel has predicted that the science fiction film is heading toward becoming a ‘flop’.
He tweeted, "#2point0 Budget is HUGE 550 cr. Film is doing good business but to get a HIT tag it should have created HAVOC at the BO, unfortunately it is not happening. Film day-1 Collection was good, Day-2 has a All Ind drop of appx 15%. Film is heading towards FLOP verdict. Sad but true’’.
Meanwhile, 2.0 collected more than Rs 100 crore on its opening day in all versions and languages and Rs 20.25 crore in Hindi alone.
Trade analyst and film critic Girish Johar tweeted, ‘’Very Very #EarlyTrends suggest a minor fall in Day 2 BO for #2Point0 ... roughly 10ish% aprox decline ...getting various trends for all 3 langs / formats’’.
Earlier, this week Madras high Court also issued an order to 37 internet service providers (ISPs) to block more than 12,000 websites which features pirated versions of Tamil movies.
Bankrolled by Lyca Productions, 2.0 features Akshay Kumar, Rajinikanth and Amy Jackson in significant roles. The movie has been produced with an estimated budget of Rs 550 crore. The music of the film has been composed by A R Rahman.
