Alia Bhatt recently received a death threat by an unidentified caller, who has now been detained by Anti-extortion cell in Juhu.
Reportedly, the extortion call was made to Alia's father Mahesh Bhatt on February 26 demanding a sum of Rs 50 lakh failing which the called threatened to kill his daughter Alia and wife Soni Razdan.
While Bhatt had initially thought of it as a prank, he even received threat messages, saying not to take the warning lightly.
The media reports suggest that the extortionist had threatened Mahesh Bhatt saying, "If you fail to do so, I will fire several rounds of bullets in your daughter Alia and wife Soni."
Based on the complaint registered in Juhu police station CR no 112/17, Mumbai Police's Anti Extortion Cell (ANC) took over the investigation and has identified the culprit.
"With the help of STF UP Police, the culprit has been detained. Our party on its way to take custody," an official statement stated.
Mahesh Bhatt even took it to micro-blogging site Twitter to share the news with his fans.
He wrote, "A bolt from the blue in the form of an extortion call & threat to my family was nipped in the bud by the MH & UP police in tandem.Gratitude!"

Considering the extortion and death threats, the police has tightened the security outside Bhatt's residence.
Interestingly, this is not the first time B-town celebs have been targeted for extortion and death threats.
Earlier, Shruti Hassan, Sonu Nigam, Karan Johar etc too had been a victim of such threats.
