New Delhi:

Alia Bhatt's much-awaited movie Raazi is gearing up for its worldwide release on May 11. However, the Indian spy drama will not be able to see the daylight in Pakistan as the movie has been banned across the country.

Reportedly, Raazi has been boycotted by the censor board and distributors in Pakistan owing to the controversial content of the movie and the negative portrayal of Pakistan.

Talking about the same a senior distribution company official was quoted as saying, “It is disappointing to see that films on controversial subjects are being produced in India time and again. All our distributors are well aware of Alia’s role in ‘Raazi’ and so; no one is willing to purchase the film. Patriotism is another reason for distributors not being pushed about buying the film. Indian producers should know that all our distributors have unanimously decided to boycott such controversial films.”

Notably, Raazi is based on Harinder Sikka's novel 'Calling Sehmat', wherein Alia Bhatt plays the role of a Kashmiri girl who turns a spy for Indian army during the 1971 war and gets married to a Pakistani officer.

Helmed by Meghna Gulzar, Raazi also stars Vicky Kaushal, Soni Razdan, Rajit Kapoor, Jaideep Ahlawat in key roles.
