Anushka Sharma, who is sailing high with the promotions of her upcoming film Zero, has completed 10 years in the showbiz industry. The journey of the Sui Dhaaga star has been quite a successful one. From being the Tani in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi to portray the character of specially-abled in also Shah Rukh-starrer Zero, Anushka has inspired many young minds and garnered a wide fan base. The actor considers that the reason behind her successful run is the ‘unconventional’ choices she has made as a performer, producer and an entrepreneur.
Anushka has delivered many hits in her career and widely known for her films such as Band Baaja Baarat, PK, Sultan, NH10. She made her Bollywood debut opposite Shah Rukh in 2008 release Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, which was produced under the banner of Yash Raj Films.
“I have always made unconventional choices because it comes from my instincts. I have been successful with those unconventional choices. I have made a career with unconventional choices and that’s why I have created a different standing for myself in the film industry,” Anushka told PTI.
“I believe luck favours the brave. I wasn’t doing it thinking it is risky. I was doing it because that made sense for me. For me following my instincts is an easier thing,” she added.
Apart from her acting career, the Jab Harry Met Sejal actor also heads a production company Clean Slate Films, which has produced some critically acclaimed films like NH10, Phillauri and Pari.
“Whether content is in a big or a small film, it will always work. The audience looks for entertainment. If anyone thinks they are above content then they are making a big mistake. Content is over stars, directors or everything else,” she added.
Anushka has delivered many back-to-back films, yet the actor believes that now she needs to take time in selecting a new project, having secured her position in the industry.
“I felt I was working round the clock and my life is in the hands of everybody and whoever I had to give time to. I want to take time and pick films that I want to choose. I am in talks with few people. I have reached a level of security and position where I can take the time to do a film that I want to do. I am not a newcomer who has to do films for the heck of it. Even when I was a newcomer I was not doing it. I am ok with that. I have gained that position,” she said.
The actor, however, has no plans to go slow when it comes to production. “The show that we are doing for Amazon Prime Video and for Netflix does require time. If I am producing a film in which I am acting, I have taken out time from my schedule to do it. Here I have to take out time. It is a behind-the-scenes job so one might not see it but that requires time. I am an actor who produces films also. And that is not slowing down,” she said.
According to the media reports, the actor would soon begin working on her next production Kaneda, which is to be directed by Navdeep Singh. However, Anushka stated that right now her sole focus remains on ties with Prime Video and Netflix.
“I have that script (Kaneda). We are not in the process of doing it currently. We have our hands full with a series that we are doing with Amazon Prime Video and the movie that we are producing for Netflix,” she said.
Anushka’s upcoming flick, Zero, presents the story of Bauua, a vertically challenged man essayed by Shah Rukh Khan. Set against the backdrop of Meerut, the film presents a unique as well as a rooted story. Bringing back the super hit trio of Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaifand Anushka Sharma, Zero offers interesting performances with an unconventional storyline.
Red Chillies Entertainment and Colour Yellow Productions have come together to bring ZERO, produced by Gauri Khan, starring Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif and Shah Rukh Khan. The Aanand L Rai directorial is set for December 21 release.
