New Delhi:

There’s no denying the fact that Bollywood welcomes all with open arms. People here are not judged on the basis of race, caste, creed or even nationality. There have been many foreign nationals who have come to Bollywood and marked their presence in the industry with their remarkable acting skills. But there are also a few actors who are Indians but have received the citizenship of other countries. We have mentioned the 4 Bollywood celebs who have been embroiled in controversies because of their citizenship.

1. Akshay Kumar:

The Khiladi of Bollywood Akshay Kumar recently received severe criticism from netizens for not casting his vote held for six Lok Sabha seats in Mumbai. While prominent Bollywood celebs like Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan were all spotted at their respective polling stations, Akshay Kumar was not seen among them. This led to several questions being raised over Akshay’s citizenship status. He has been asked a number of times about his citizenship, so much so that he had to post this clarification.

2. Deepika Padukone:

As Deepika Padukone was born in the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, many had claimed that she actually holds a Danish passport. However, she debunked these claims by posting a picture after voting in the 2019 General Elections.

3. Alia Bhatt:

Recently, even Alia Bhatt was asked about voting but she said that she cannot vote in India as she has a British passport.

4. Soni Razdan:

Alia Bhatt’s mother Soni Razdan recently took to her Twitter account and wrote, ''Urging people to vote against hate has nothing to do with citizenship and everything to do with being a human being. We are all human beings first and citizens of the world we live in. Secularism and democratic principles are values and it’s those that I stand for. #VoteOutHate.''

To this tweet of her, someone pointed out that she has no right to speak since she has British citizenship. Soni responded and said, ‘’ I do actually. My father is Indian. Lived in India since I was 3 months old. Pay taxes. Hold an Overseas Citizen of India card. If my hard earned income is good enough to be used to better this nation then I have a right to voice my opinions too. #VoteOutHate.’’
