After 49 renowned film actors and directors wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing concern over growing lynching cases on July 24, 61 actors, filmmakers and artistes have come back with an open letter directed to the signatories of the former letter, calling it 'selective outrage and false narratives'

The letter has ben undersigned by 61 personalities that includes prominent names like Kangana Ranaut, lyricist Prasoon Joshi, Classical Dancer and MP Sonal Mansingh, Instrumentalist Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt,  Filmmakers Madhur Bhandarkar & Vivek Agnihotri.

The letter calling the 49 signatories self-styled 'guardians' and 'conscience keepers' of the nation said that their address to the Prime Minister have astonished them.  The letter said that the undersigned found the document as an 'attempt to foist a False Narrative with an intention of denigrating the democratic ethos and norms of our collective functioning as a nation and people"

Calling the attempt a 'conspiracy' the signatories claimed that they have earlier kept silence when tribals and the marginalised have become victim of Naxal terror and when 'slogans chanted by terrorists and terror groups were echoed in some leading university campuses in the country'

They have further cited 12 instances in which they claimed that the signatories have kept silence. The letter also accuse the signatories of allegedly expressing 'disdain for the faith of the majority in India.'The letter concluded on a positive note hoping that 'India shall continue her march of all round development, of progress and of social equity.'

Earlier, as many as 49 renowned film actors and directors have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing concern over growing lynching cases. Letter signed by social activists, filmmakers and artists like Adoor Gopalkrishnan, Mani Ratnam, Anurag Kashyap, Binayak Sen, Soumitro Chatterjee, Aparna Sen states: "Ram is sacred for the majority community, stop defiling the name of Ram." 

The celebrities have said, "Over 254 religious identity-based hate crimes. 840 incidents of atrocities against the Dalits. Dear Prime Minister, what action has been taken?"

"The lynching of Muslims, Dalits and other minorities must be stopped immediately. We were shocked to learn from the NCRB that there have been no less than 840 instances of atrocities against Dalits in the year 2016, and a definite decline in the percentage of convictions," the letter reads.

Bengali actor Kaushik Sen also recently claimed that he recieved death threats from an unidentified person for being a signatory to the letter directed to PM Modi.
