Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone left everyone awestruck with her stupendous performance as queen Padmavati in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmaavat. The period drama created ripples at the box office and crossed the Rs 500 crore mark worldwide.
The Baajirao Mastani actress is yet to sign a new project despite her last release being a superhit. The Tamasha actress was supposed to start shooting for Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming film, but the project was put on hold due to Irrfan Khan’s health issues.
Speculations are rife over the reason why Deepika Padukone is yet to sign the dotted lines for a new project. Grapevines have been buzzing with the rumours that the Piku star wanted to keep her dates free for her wedding with beau Ranveer Singh.
Some theories have suggested that the Om Shanti Om star was waiting to recover from her neck and back injury. However, a report in Deccan Cornicle has squashed all the speculations.
“Her back/neck problem is being properly attended to and she will be fine soon. As for marriage plans, they in no way impinge on her career. The reason Deepika is not signing anything new is because of the quality of roles coming her way. They are all big-banner films with top heroes. But nothing even remotely as author-backed or inspiring as Padmaavat. At this stage in her career, Deepika is no more content playing the conventional leading lady. It has to be a script that offers her as much to do as the male protagonist,†a source close to Deepika Padukone told Deccan Chronicle.
Interestingly, the Cocktail actress in an interview with film critic Anupama Chopra had discussed about the lack of good scripts in Bollywood.
The report in the leading daily also suggested that remuneration was a major reason why the 32-year-old actress didn’t pick up a project yet.
“She has gone on-record to claim she was paid more than the leading man in Padmaavat. Big banners like Yash Raj Films and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions are not willing to pay her that kind of money,†the source told the leading daily.
