New Delhi:

Varun Dhawan has managed to strike a right balance between commerce and art but the actor says he does not believe in making long-term plans about his career. Salman Khan had recently called Varun as the only actor from the current generation who can achieve superstardom.

When asked about it, Varun said he has always looked up to Salman.  “I want to take each day as it comes. For me, the next challenge is to try and excel in everything that I do. My whole idea is that take each day as it comes and to try and win that battle.

“I don’t want to try and make a five-year plan. There are certain directors I want to work with and god willing if they feel (I’m) worthy enough, I can showcase some other things as an actor,” Varun told PTI in an interview here.

The 32-year-old actor is currently looking forward to “Street Dancer 3D”, which reunites him with his “ABCD 2” director Remo D’Souza.

“We wanted to do ‘ABCD 3’ but then it took time. ‘Street Dancer’ is subconsciously that brand only it is about dance. It is India’s biggest dance musical film. And it deals with a lot of teams. There are different teams in the film, I have my team, Shraddha Kapoor has her team, there are international teams as well. And then you see who will win at the end.”

The film will introduce a number of new faces, something that Varun believes is important. “In ‘Street Dancer 3D’ there will be 20 new dancers. My idea is to introduce new talent to every film. If you are a star, you have to take the onus of introducing new talent.” The coming-of-age dance drama also stars Prabhudheva, Raghav Juyal, Dharmesh Yelande, Shakti Mohan, Punit Pathak, Nora Fatehi and others.

Produced by Bhushan Kumar under T-Series, the film is slated to release on January 24 next year.  Varun was speaking on the sidelines of season three of Breezer Vivid Shuffle, touted as India’s hip-hop dance competition. The actor on Wednesday launched the hip-hop dance festival that will take place across the country along with an international qualifier over the next three months.

He said the idea is to give a platform to underground artiste to showcase their talent. “When we had this festival for the first time two years ago we had Divine with us, Raftaar was there for the second year and this year we have Naezy, Altaf, etc.

“We have got a lot of poppers, lockers, graffiti artiste, rappers, dancers, it is all about bringing the hip-hop culture together, which is a big part of Mumbai. The idea is to get these underground artistes and giving them mainstream coverage. The street culture is massive in India today. Anywhere you go on the streets of India, there is some uniqueness.”

Recently, Shashank Khaitan was gearing up to make an action adventure film with Varun Dhawan but the director has now put a hold on the project as he was not finding "anything new to say" with it.

Last year, Shashank revealed he was working on the film which would have terrorism as its backdrop. Dhawan, who worked with the filmmaker on "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania" and "Badrinath Ki Dulhania", was set for the lead part. The director said he wrote a lot on it and felt he had cracked a great first half but then "somewhere along the second half I became very rehearsed."

"As a writer director, you can't live in isolation. Everyday there's so much material coming out on shows, films and TV on this (subject), that if I don't have anything new to say, I shouldn't say it. "That's what happened with that film, at least as of now, that I'm not finding anything new to say. So I've kind of kept it on the backburner," Shashank told PTI.
