With the release of Simmba, 2018 ended on a rocking note and now, Bollywood welcomes 2019 with two much-awaited releases, The Accidental Prime Minister and Uri: The Surgical Strike. Both the films are slated to hit the screens today and have already garnered great buzz and hype due to the interesting subjects they promise to deliver on the silver screen. But will both the films attract the audience to the cinema halls? Let’s check out:

Uri: The Surgical Strike: After impressing the audience with his mind-boggling performances in Sanju, Raazi and Manmarziyaan, Vicky Kaushal is coming back to the silver screens with debutant director Aditya Dhar’s Uri: The Surgical Strike, where he portrays the role of Major Vihan Shergill. With action-packed sequences and hard-hitting dialogues, it is expected that Uri will have a great opening. If the film makes way into the heart of audiences then it may turn out to be one of the biggest surprise hits of the year.Talking about the film, Vicky Kaushal had earlier shared, ''The topic of patriotism is so relevant today. It is like we are defining what patriotism is. Is it about showing and expressing patriotism or about feeling it? In times like today where we are more vocal about patriotism, it was a huge task to tell this story and convey the message more responsibly.''

Meanwhile, trade analyst, Taran Adarsh tweeted a one-word review for the film. Check the tweet below:

The Accidental Prime Minister: Starring Anupam Kher in the lead role, The Accidental Prime Minister chronicles the time when Manmohan Singh served as the Prime Minister. The trailer has received huge criticism from the Congress party over ‘incorrect presentation of the facts.’ Few have also called this a propaganda film because of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. With so much action happening in real life, it will be exciting to see what Anupam Kher starrer has to offer.

Meanwhile, in an earlier interview, Anupam Kher had said that the film should be  India's entry to the Oscars and he should be nominated for his performance. In the film, Akshaye Khanna plays Sanjaya Baru who was the media advisor of Manmohan Singh. While German actor Suzanne Bernert plays Sonia Gandhi, Aahana Kumara will be seen as Priyanka Gandhi. Arjun Mathur plays Rahul Gandhi in The Accidental Prime Minister. So, which movie will be your first choice this weekend? Let us know in the comments section below.
