Katrina Kaif joins Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, to star opposite Akshay in Sooryavanshi

From the universe of Singham and Simmba, Sooryavanshi is all set to have a new entry into the universe! The most awaited cop action drama will also have Katrina Kaif as the leading lady opposite superstar Akshay Kumar. 

The cop universe created by the ace director Rohit Shetty is the first cinematic universe that Indian cinema has seen. The super cop universe has a strong audience appeal with its never seen before action sequences. Ajay Devgn starrer Singham and Singham Returns and Ranveer Singh starrer Simmba have been one of the most celebrated films at the box office. 

Reliance Entertainment presents Rohit Shetty Picturez in association with Dharma Productions & Cape of Good Films, Sooryavanshi not only marks Katrina’s entry into the super cop universe but also her first collaboration with Rohit Shetty.

Early reports by Pinkvilla suggested that Akshay was hellbent on casting Katrina for the female lead contrary to Rohit Shetty's choices but seems like now they have mended their differences. Akshay has worked with Katrina earlier in movies like Tees Mar Khan, Singh is King, Namste London.

The first look of the film was released on the first week of March and Akshay Kumar looked  daunting and stylish in a 'khaki' uniform ready to fight against terrorism.

Not only Akshay, but Bajirao Singham aka Ajay Devgn and Sangram ‘Simmba’ Bhalerao aka Ranveer Singh also shared the posters of the masala potboiler.

Karan Johar's Dharma Production that helms the flick too shared the poster on Instagram. Karan Johar wrote, "Blockbuster director + blockbuster actor + blockbuster franchise = A blockbuster EID for you in 2020! #Sooryavanshi"

ooryavanshi will go on floors in May 2019. The rest of the star cast of the cop-drama is yet to be announced. The movie will hit the screens on Eid 2020, a festival usually taken by Salman Khan for the release of his films.

Director Rohit Shetty had clarified that Sooryavanshi is neither a remake nor is it adapted from Tamil film Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru. 

Katrina Kaif will also been seen in Bharat opposite Salman Khan while Akshay kumar has just wrapped the shoot for Good News opposite Kareena Kapoor.
