Bollywood celebrities getting trolled over social media is no new news. From Anushka Sharma getting slammed over Twitter to Priyanka Chopra getting trolled for her attire, cybernauts have kept an eye on every event that can be turned into memes. It’s been over a year since photos of Mahira Khan and Ranbir Kapoor smoking over a conversation in New York were leaked, but it seems like the Raees actor is still getting joked over it.

On Tuesday, Mahira tweeted a heartfelt congratulatory post to wish Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Hateez over his retirement. “Mubarak on a great innings and thank You!! I’m so glad I got to watch you play live. Love to you and the family,” the actor wrote.

However, a netizen was quick to comment on her tweet by slamming her. He commented, “Lgta hai koi khaas kaam nahin mil rha jab say ranveer kapoor waali pictures out hueen.”

The actor, without giving away any major importance to such troll, simply responded it by correcting Ranbir’s name. “Ranbir*,” wrote Mahira.
Pictures of Mahira Khan and Ranbir Kapoor made rounds over the internet in which both were strolling the streets of New York with cigarettes in hands. Mahira was badly trolled and criticised over the internet for wearing a short dress and smoking.
Rumours were also making rounds that both were involved in a romantic relationship. Post the controversy exploded, Ranbir issued a public statement taking stand for the Pakistani actress.

Addressing the controversy, Mahira had earlier stated in an interview, “I’d be lying if I said that I decided right off the bat that I wouldn’t respond to this controversy. And I’m a very strong woman but when all of this happened, I was completely shattered and broken. I would think about posting a statement every day. Then I would stop myself because I just wouldn’t know what to say’’.
The Raees actor confessed that she had identified the source of negative criticism as ‘disappointment’ from the fans. She said, "It's the same disappointment that my nani or my mamoo would have felt seeing that. So even now when I meet an older lady who says that she didn't like the pictures, I'm quick to apologize’’.
The rumours of them dating began when they both attended Global Teacher Prize in March 2017 together.
Mahira made her Bollywood debut with Rahul Dholakia’s 2017 release Raees co-starring megastar Shah Rukh Khan.
