The 91st Academy Awards opened with a lively performance from the legendary English rock band Queen and fronted by former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert in lieu of the opening monologue as Hollywood's biggest night had no host this time.
Queen and Lambert opened with “We Will Rock You†as the audience flew to their feet, with stars like Glenn Close, Javier Bardem and Lady Gaga spotted clapping and singing along in the audience.
Following Queen, the motion picture academy ran a montage of the year's movies. Tina Fey alongside Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph welcomed the Dolby Theatre audience to "the one-millionth Academy Awards." Â
Soon after, Rudolph clarified that the award night will not have a host this time. "So just a quick update in case you're confused. There is no host tonight, there will be no popular movie category and Mexico is not paying for the wall.", she said.

The first award was given out for the Best Supporting Actress category and Regina King tearfully accepted her award for her role in "If Beale Street Could Talk." The crowd gave King a standing ovation for her first Oscar.
Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting the awards within hours of being selected. Controversy erupted when his past homophobic remarks resurfaced on Twitter. The comedian posted an Instagram video of himself boxing with a punching bag during the ceremony."When you feel like u have nothing left is when you find a way to push & give more....Always grinding. #HustleHart," he wrote.
