Renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-awaited movie Padmaavat has finally hit the theatres on January 25. The movie has been the talk of the town given the controversies surrounding this magnum opus.
However, despite all the violent protests, Padmaavat has managed to keep the nation agog and witnessed a decent response at the box office.
In fact, the period drama, which stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, has managed to open with a fair business of Rs 5 crore at the box office even before release.
Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared a glimpse of the earnings of the magnum opus and wrote, "Despite challenges and extremely limited preview shows [which commenced in evening], #Padmaavat collects ₹ 5 cr in previews screenings on Wed."

Notably, Padmaavat has received favorable reviews from the audience and critics and this decent opening is indeed a good news for the makers.
Talking about the Padmaavat controversy, the movie has been facing protests from fringe group alleging distortion of facts in the movie.
In fact, the fringe group even demanded a ban over the release of the movie.
Given the protests against Padmaavat turning intense with every passing day, it is expected to affect the box office collection of the movie to some extent.
To this, film trade analyst Akshaye Rathi told Times Now, "Of course, it will but I think once the situation diffuses and once the protesters realise that it is a film that really honors their culture and history, I am sure there will be a huge number of Rajputs who will support the film.
I am very confident on that. It's just a matter of time. Once the film is out, they will support and cheer the film."
Indeed, it will be interesting to see how Padmaavat will fare at the box office post-release given the fact that it has been made with a staggering budget of Rs 150 crore.Â
