Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, best known as Rajinikanth is one of the reigning superstars of Kollywood and made a mark in the industry with some of his tremendous performances over the years.

While Rajinikanth's imminent entry into politics is currently the talk of the town, the superstar is being inundated with a bunch of heartfelt messages on his 67th birthday from fans across the country.

The Indian film actor who primarily proved his efficiency in Tamil cinema, used to work in the Bangalore Transport Service as a bus conductor at the beginning of his career. Later, in 1973, he joined the Madras Film Institute to pursue a diploma in acting.

Rajinikanth stepped into his Bollywood career with  K. Balachander's Tamil drama Apoorva Raagangal in 1975 and the actor never looked behind after earning ₹26 crore (equivalent to ₹55 crore or US$8.6 million in 2016) for his role in Sivaji (2007).He is one of the highest paid Asian actors of his time.

Panakkaran, Athisaya Piravi, Dharmadorai, Bairavi, Kabali, Enthiran are some of those movies which helped the actor to manage a permanent place in hearts of millions.

Rajinikanth has won six Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, four Best Actor Awards and two Special Awards for Best Actor and a Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award.

The Government of India has also honoured him with the Padma Bhushan(2000) and Padma Vibhushan(2016) for his contributions to the arts.

At the 45th International Film Festival of India (2014), Rajinikanth was conferred with the 'Centenary Award for Indian Film Personality of the Year'.
