Rajkummar Rao’s Omerta to now hit screens on THIS date

Rajkummar Rao has been delivering some of his finest work in Bollywood, be it Newton or Bareilly Ki Barfi. The talented actor is all set to pack a solid punch with one of his next releases- Omerta.

The Hansal Mehta directorial has been making waves among movie buffs ever since the first look was unveiled. The crime drama is based on the life of British-born Pakistani terrorist Omar Saeed Sheikh, who was responsible for murdering a journalist Daniel Pearl .

Rajkummar Rao will play the role of Omar in the much-awaited film. The flick which was originally slated to release on April 20 has been pushed further.

Omerta will now hit the silver screens on May 4 as the clearance from CBFC came in recently.

Mehta while talking to PTI said that the film had a fair bit of strong language and violence as required in the story. He told the news agency that the team didn’t want any sort of cuts and hence waited for the censor board to clear the film.

"The Censor Board Chief and members of the revising committee understood how certain scenes could not be removed since they are essential for audiences to understand how a terrorist's mind works. Hence the wait and that's why a decision has been taken to release Omerta on May 4th," Hansal Mehta said in a statement.

Interestingly, Omerta is Rajkummar Rao’s fifth collaboration with Mehta, after ShahidAligarhCitylights and Bose. The dynamic duo are known to deliver promising content to the viewers.

Omerta has managed to woo the audience at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Busan International Film Festtival. The flick which also stars Keval Arora and Rajesh Tailang will also be screened at the New York Indian Film Festival.
