Kabir Khan’s directorial ’83, featuring Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, captain of the World Cup-winning Indian cricket team of 1983, is in England for the second schedule shoot of the movie amidst the World Cup frenzy. 

After rumours of Deepika Padukone playing the part of Romi Dev, wife to Kapil Dev, fresh reports suggest that Deepika will indeed be in the film. Sources have recently confirmed about Deepika’s participation in the film. “We are looking at a lot of interesting cameos in the film which will be announced at the right time,” director Kabir Khan told us earlier. 

According to sources, Deepika has been trying to work her dates out after wrapping the shoot of Chhapaak, which was also an emotionally draining experience for the actress. In the film, she plays an acid attack victim called Malti, inspired by a real acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. She has willingly agreed to do the role in ‘83.

The source revealed that her character will not, however, have much screentime will be much like a cameo.

Ranveer Singh has been preparing for the role for much time now. While the team is already practising, the squad will begin the shooting at a local cricket club in the Scottish port city for a week, followed by other popular locations like Dulwich college in London, Edinburgh cricket club, Nevill Ground at Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent and the Oval cricket ground.

'83 hence will mark the reunion of real-life husband-wife Ranveer and Deepika in reel too. Kapil Dev and wife Romi Dev have attended their wedding back in November 2018.

Touted to be the “biggest sports film” of the country, ‘83 is slated to hit the screens on 10 April 2020 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It marks the first-ever trilingual release for both, Ranveer Singh and director Kabir Khan.
