Sacred Games 2: Saif, Nawazuddin, Pankaj Tripathi reveal much about plot

New Delhi:

Netflix India recently piqued the excitement around the upcoming season of Sacred Games Season 2 with a retro photoshoot that clearly has a 70s gangster vibe. Starring Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pankaj Tripathi, Ranvir Shorey, Kalki Koechlin, Jatin Sarna, Surveen Chawla and Luke Kenny , the pics share much about the plot and the characters.

Two fan favourites - Kubbra Sait, who played Kuckoo in the first season and Jitendra Joshi, who played Constable Katekar and and Radhika Apte who played a RAW agent however, are missing in this photo, which means that they will not star in Sacred Games 2.
While this is something that we figured, Saif, Kalki, Nawaz, Pankaj, Jatin dropped some other major hints about the plot of Sacred Games 2 in an interview with Hindustan Times.

With expectations running high for Sartaj, Saif remarks that his character faces a lot of additional issues along with the weight of saving the world this season. “Season 1 was a setup, which deals more with the inner workings of his mind, personality and background. In Season 2, there’s a lot of tension and action. It’s got a few daddy issues as well, which is the reason Sartaj gets sucked into it.” revealed Saif.

Nawazuddin' character Ganesh Gaitonde will plays the narrative in Sacred Games 2 like he did in the first season, however, situations around him will bring an internal change in him. Season 2 has Gaitonde taking his business international. “See, the way he talks, the way he walks, remains the same, it’s the change in circumstances that brings about a change in any man’s internal state of affairs. It seemed unbelievable to me, but when we finally went abroad, it hit me that we’re actually filming this series internationally," says Nawaz, recalling the sheer scale of the production.

While Pankaj Tripathi's role as Guruji was more of an extended cameo in the first season, in Sacred Games 2, we will see more of him and will play a major part in the plot development. Talking about his character, Tripathi told "Speaking about the psyche of his character in Season 2, he says, "Guruji is that tsunami whose impact is hard to gauge from its origin. You’ll have to watch the entire season twice to understand every move he makes.”

Surveen Chawla who recently embraced motherhood had a very short role in the previous edition that ended in the first episode. But in the upcoming season, she has a prominent role. Gaitonde's enigmatic friend whose story was under wraps in Season 1 is back with a much bigger role in the new season, here’s what she has to say about it, “Jojo is not afraid of anyone. She's got multiple sides to her and has a tremendous impact on Gaitonde’s life in every way, which is hard to believe for a man like him. It was exciting and challenging to play her.”

Kalki is the new addition to the cast. She plays the character of Batya and as the trailer reveals shje will become a disciple and close aid of Guruji. Kalki reveals we will get to see Batya's journey from a "rebellious, angry teenager with a drug addiction to this very calm woman over the years, once she reaches Guruji’s Ashram.” She is a lost soul who is wandering from place to place, looking for a worthy cause to fight for when she meets Guruji. Her transformation is quite interesting as it seems to parallel Sartaj,

Malcolm, played by Luke Kenny is a furtive character whose surprise appearances kept us on the edge of our seats in season 1. From being a covert operative with an ulterior motive to laying out larger-than-life plans for ‘Bombay’, Luke says Malcolm’s backstory comes to light in Season 2, “Malcolm is the thoughts manifested by Guruji. So, if Guruji is thinking something, needs something to get done, then he just gives an indication to Malcolm. There’s some crazy stuff that Malcolm does in season 2, and you want to wait for it to unfold.”

While the first season of Sacred Games was jointly directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap, the second one is helmed by Anurag and Neeraj Ghaywan. The show streams on Netflix August 15 onwards.
