Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor has supported DU student Gurmehar Kaur and lauded her for having a compassionate outlook. The diva also stated that everyone is entitled to have an opinion.
Sonam's reaction came in wake of the ongoing debate over Gurmehar Kaur's viral social media campaign against Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) following violence between members of unions AISA and ABVP workers in Delhi University's Ramjas College.
Kaur, 20, withdrew from her social media campaign on Tuesday after allegedly receiving threats from the members of the RSS-backed outfit and getting trolled.
Talking about the same, Sonam told India Today, "It's disgusting, appalling. I know some colleagues in the industry who are claiming to be artists said that and I think it's very disheartening for me. See, first of all, everyone is entitled to an opinion. What she feels is a very compassionate way of looking at it; nobody is to be blamed for anybody's death. It's very evolved of her to think that way, very forgiving of her, and instead of applauding her, we are bringing her down. Whether you agree with her or not, it's her father. She's entitled to say whatever she has to for him. You cannot criticise her for it. It's very cruel."

Interestingly, the issue has divided the nation into two segments. While some are supporting Gurmehar's initiative, there are many who have criticised her as well, including Phogat sisters, Virender Sehwag and Randeep Hooda.
On the work front, Sonam Kapoor is currently busy preparing for next project which happens to Shashanka Ghosh's directorial 'Veere Di Wedding'.
The movie also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Swara Bhaskar. 'Veere Di Wedding' will hit the floors in May.
