Kangana Ranaut recently announced that she has opted out of filmmaker Anurag Basu's next Imali as she wants to focus more on her directorial venture. "Anurag and I have spoken about it. I feel extremely bad because 'Imali' was giving me an opportunity to work with my mentor again, but I'm on the verge of announcing my own film in a few weeks from now. That has taken a lot of my time and I have conveyed it to Anurag, who understood my situation," she had said in a statement.
Now, as per latest reports, Deepika Padukone has been approached by the makers for the film. A report in Bollywood Hungama suggests that Deepika, who is currently shooting for Chhapaak, might be replacing Kangana in the film. "Kangana Ranaut had walked out of filmmaker Anurag Basu’s forthcoming movie Imali citing difference in opinion. As the two of them couldn’t reunite after Gangster and Life In A Metro, the filmmaker has now approached Deepika Padukone to play the lead role in the film," said a source.
If the report is to be believed, the director and the Padmaavat actress have been on talking terms about Imali. "As Deepika is busy with Chhapaak, the conversations between the filmmaker and the actress have been more than positive," the source added.
Kangana Ranaut and Anurag Basu have previously worked together in films like Gangster and Life in a Metro. Kangana is currently working on three films - Mental Hai Kya, Panga and the recently announced Jayalalithaa biopic.
