Veteran Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan recently informed that he has filed a police complaint in Amboli Police station after receiving threat calls for quite some time now.
Confirming the same, the singer told IANS, "I did not go for an FIR. I wanted to inform the local police four days ago because I started getting the calls in April. I have received such calls three times, and I thought it makes sense to take precaution and inform the Amboli police station. When we went to the police station, we were asked to approach the AEC of the Mumbai crime branch. The media must have seen me going in there, and the news started floating around. From my end, I have done exactly what one is supposed to do after getting such threat calls."
He also shared his experience of tracing the number and suddenly receiving another call. "I tried tracing the number but it was either switched off or out of order. Then, one day in July, when I was getting ready in my vanity van for the shoot of a reality music show, I got a call from an unknown number. Out of nowhere, someone started abusing me. I was shocked! Someone also sent me an abusive text message. I felt I should not take these things lightly and decided to inform the police," he added.
The first threat call was made on the occasion of Gudi Padwa. Talking about his next step after going to the police, Udit mentioned, "I believe the police will inquire the matter and, hopefully, whoever is doing this will soon be caught." The police station was not available for a comment.
The award winning singer, also opened up about the kind of things he had to hear over the phone calls. “On April 6, 2019, I got a call from an unknown number at 6.59 am. The man said, ‘Tumhare poore parivaar ko khatam kar doonga.’ I panicked. After looking up the number, the name appeared as Maucha. Post that, I kept trying that number several times, but it was either unavailable or switched off. I never got a call from the same number again, but a couple of other phone calls disturbed me,†Bombay Times quoted the singer as saying.
He went on to reveal that he was getting ready for the shoot in his vanity van when he received the call from an unknown number who later asked him for extortion money.
Meanwhile, Amboli Police Station Senior Police Inspector Bharat Gaikwad informed the publication that the case has been transferred to Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai Crime branch, who would now be taking its charge.
