Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Padnekar starrer Saand Ki Aankh trailer that tells the tale of octogenarian sharpshooters in a male-dominated world earned much appreciation among cinephiles. The movie has now sparked ageism debate after veteran actress Neena Gupta opined that the role of older characters should be offered to actress belonging to the same age group.

Kangana Ranaut's sister Rangoli supporting Neena Gupta's opinion in a series of tweets revealed that her sister was initially offered the role, but, she suggested the makers to cast Neena Gupta and Ramya Krishnan (Shivagami of Baahubali fame) in the lead roles.
Rangoli tweeted, “Neena ji Kangana was offered this movie and she loved the true story of Grandmom’s achievements she suggested yours and Ramya Krishnan ma’am’s name for lead roles but these men can’t remove deeply rooted sexism from their filthy brains …”

Neena, who is currently shooting for 'Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan in Varanasi, trying to put an end to the controversy, tweets, "I liked the trailer, #SaandKiAankh and I have great respect for both the actors @bhumipednekar @taapsee chalo lets wish the film good luck also to #AnuragKashyap who I am very fond of, chalo apna time ayega."

Meanwhile, debutant director Tushar Hiranandani in a recent interview bared he faced a lot of difficulty while casting two leads, who would look like women in their 60s onscreen.
"I went to everyone in the entire industry. Every heroine was scared to take up this role. These are the only two women who had the guts to do it," Tushar told reporters.
Saand ki Aankh hits the screen this Diwali.
