New Delhi:

After the political furore over a few controversial scenes of Tamil action-drama Sarkar, Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput's upcoming release Kedarnath ran into trouble Saturday. Set against the backdrop of a catastrophic deluge in 2013, the Abhishek Kapoor venture has hurt the sentiments of Hindus by promoting 'love jihad' in the flick, a BJP leader said.

Ajendra Ajay, who is part of the BJP's Uttarakhand media relations team, also dashed a letter to the Central Board of Film Certification Chairman Prasoon Joshi, demanding a ban on Kedarnath, which "makes fun of Hindu sentiments".

In reference to a kissing scene between Sushant and Sara featured in the trailer, the BJP leader claimed that it was an attack on the Hindu religion as Kedarnath represents the faith of crores of Hindus. Furthermore, Ajay expressed his annoyance over a tagline in the film's poster, which read "Love is a Pilgrimage".

"By setting a romantic love story against the backdrop of a huge tragedy that occurred at Kedarnath, a centre of faith for crores of Hindus, the filmmakers have shown great disrespect to the followers of the religion," Ajay told PTI.

The term ‘love jihad’ denotes alleged campaigns under which Muslim men target the non-Muslim women, especially from the Hindu Community for conversion to Islam.

Accusing the film of projecting the holy Kedarnath shrine in such a flippant manner, the BJP leader also asked - couldn't the makers of Kedarnath find a Hindu character for the lead. The state BJP has also warned of mounting protests across Uttarakhand if the movie produced by Ronnie Screwwala and Pragya Kapoor hit the theatres.

Kedarnath, which is slated for a nationwide release on December 7, is the debut film of Saif Ali Khan’s daughter Sara. Sushant, on the other hand, plays the male lead in the movie. The controversial film showcases the calamitous floods that hit the shrine town of Kedarnath in Uttarakhand’s Chardham in 2013.
