New Delhi:

Bollywood veteran actor Anupam Kher has resigned from his position as a chairman at the Film and Television Institute of India stating his commitments to an international TV show for which he is required to be stationed in the US.

The Special 26 actor gave his resignation to Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. He mentioned about his commitment to the show and wrote, “he will be stationed in the US for nearly nine months between 2018 and 2019 and then for a similar period for a minimum of three years more.”

The 63-year-old versatile actor in his resignation, further added, "Given this assignment, it would not be fair to me, the students and management team, for me to hold a position of such responsibility and accountability, without being actively involved in the operations.”

IB minister Rajyavardhan accepted Anupam Kher’s resignation, who had replaced Gajendra Chauhan after a controversial tenure as the head of the Pune-based institute in October 2018, also thanked him for his services to the premier institute, sources suggest.

Anupam Kher will be next seen in Vijay Ratnakar Gutte directorial venture The Accidental Prime Minister. The biographical political drama, in which the actor will play the character of former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh, is slated to release on December 21, 2018.
