Mumbai:

Bollywood celebrities criticised the government’s decision to ban the telecast of a documentary on December 16 gangrape in India, terming the move as “ostrich mentality”.

‘India’s Daughter’, which is trending on Twitter, by British filmmaker Leslee Udwin, has kicked up a storm over the interview of one of the convicts of December 16, 2012 gangrape in Delhi.

“We have this Ostrich Mentality Banning #IndiasDaughter is like putting your head in the sand so no one can see me...,” Anurag Basu tweeted.

Filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor said, “#indiasdaughter is a punch in the gut for every Indian, a spit in the face for the defence lawyers of the accused and any one who wants to ban it...”

Celebrities also feel that the way Indian government took a speedy decision on banning the documentary, they should also hurry up the trial.

“I don’t understand how the gov takes immediate action to ban a docu but let’s those rapists live for 3 yrs. They should be killed NOW! (sic),” director Punit Malhotra tweeted.

Actor Siddharth said, “A film about rape in the US military- yes. About rape in the Catholic Church-yes. A film about rape in India - BAN! #Indiasdaughter #DARKAGES.”

Sonal Chauhan said, “Ridiculous that this govt is focusing more on banning a documentary instead of the punishing that animal who’s talking.”

Former actress Twinkle Khanna feels the mentality of men in India should change.

“It starts from aborting the girlchild to raping and killing women. We are raising tomorrow’s men in our homes today. Raise them right India,” she said.

Boman Irani said, “Documentaries are stories of truth! We should be embarrassed of the truth rather than the fact that the documentary got made#IndiasDaughter.
