Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are reuniting for the first time onscreen after their wedding with Kabir Khan’s upcoming sports drama, 83. The actress is playing Kapil Dev's wife Romi Bhatia in the film, which sees Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev. As per reports, the Padmaavat actress will be getting Rs 14 crore as remuneration for her role in the film. She will be playing a supporting role in 83.
A source close to the producers of 83 told Deccan Chronicle, "She was in two minds, not certain if she wanted to play a non-central character." Then what made her do the film? "Mostly Ranveer, and perhaps the zeros on the cheque?" said the source.
On Wednesday, Ranveer took to his Instagram account to announce that Deepika will be joining the cast of 83. Sharing a picture of himself with Kabir Khan and Deepika Padukone, Ranveer wrote, "*drum roll* All smiles as All-star @deepikapadukone joins the #83squad !!!"
In another post, the Gully Boy actor wrote, "Who better to play My Wifey than My Wifey?! @deepikapadukone plays Romi Dev in @83thefilm !!! Genius casting courtesy @kabirkhankk."
Deepika Padukone also shared the pictures on her social media handles and wrote, "& on to the next...Thank You @kabirkhankk for this incredible honour...! #RomiDev #Day1 @83thefilm @ranveersingh."
Ranveer Singh has been preparing for the role for much time now from cricket sessions from Kapil Dev to spending time with him. Now even Deepika too will spend some time with Romi to understand her point of view during the '83 frenzy. Two two are now at Glasglow shooting for the movie.
Touted to be the 'biggest sports film' of the country, ‘83 is slated to hit the screens on 10 April 2020 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It marks the first-ever trilingual release for both, Ranveer Singh and director Kabir Khan.
