Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor's Good Newwz, which hit the screens on December 27, has entered the Rs 100 crore club. The film now stands at a total of Rs 127.90 crore. Sharing the numbers on Twitter, trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, ''#GoodNewwz puts up a fantastic show in Week 1... Metros terrific... Multiplexes of Tier-2 cities very good... Emerges HIT... Fri 17.56 cr, Sat 21.78 cr, Sun 25.65 cr, Mon 13.41 cr, Tue 16.20 cr, Wed 22.50 cr, Thu 10.80 cr. Total: ₹ 127.90 cr. #India biz.''
Akshay Kumar had four releases in the year 2019: Kesari, Mission Mangal, Housefull 4 and Good Newwz. While Mission Mangal remains the highest grossing film among them with collections of Rs 202 crore, Housefull 4 and Kesari collected Rs 194 crore and Rs 154 crore respectively at the domestic box office.

Talking about the film, Akshay Kumar told PTI, "I knew it will do good. It has the seed in the right place. A lot of people have done IVF but I would be glad if more people come out and talk about it.'' Talking about the criticism the film got for its stance on anti-abortion, Akshay said, "It is just a character talking and not an actor. If you see, my character is negative in a way, I am a self-centred person in the film but that doesn’t mean I am teaching that (to people)."
The story of the film revolves around two married couples and their journey of love. Akshay and Kareena are seen as Mr. and Mrs. Batra, trying to conceive a baby. On the other hand, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani too, who share the same surname, also plan to have a baby through IVF. And the real twist comes when Kareena’s eggs are fertilized with Diljit’s sperm and Kiara’s eggs are fertilized with Akshay’s sperm.
Directed by newcomer Raj Mehta and produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, Good Newwz also features Adil Hussain and Tisca Chopra in supporting roles. The film was earlier named Good Newwz but was underwent a spelling change. Producer Karan Johar had announced the name change on Akshay’s 52nd birthday in September.
