New Delhi:

During the 23rd edition of the Busan International Film Festival, Manoj Bajpayee’s feature and Devashish Makhija’s directorial venture ‘Bhonsle’ had its world premiere and got a standing ovation from the audience. The Busan International Film Festival has started on Thursday and will end on October 13.

“Great to hear some exciting response coming in from Busan. This is my third film in a row to make it there and I am quite happy about the film and Devashish Makhija, the director, and the entire team who sacrificed a lot to reach here,” Bajpayee said in a statement.

The Devashish Makhija-film features Bajpayee in a role of terminally ill lone wolf Maharashtrian cop named Bhonsle.

Bhonsle, who had retired against his will in a politically driven Mumbai, finds himself alongside a 23-year-old North Indian girl and her brother. Both the brother and sister are fighting their own war as the raging conflict continues to dismantle their world around them. As they find the companionship of Bhonsle, it encourages him to fight one last battle just for them, however, it might be just too late.

‘Bhonsle’ is one of the nine international feature to be nominated for the Kim Jiseok Award in the Asian Cinema category and the award will be a cash prize of USD 10,000 going out to the final two films. The selection process solely lies in the hands of the jury members.

The Manoj Bajpayee-starrer also have Marathi star Santosh Juvekar, theatre actress Ipshita Chakraborty Singh and child artist Virat Vaibhav.
