Akshay Kumar's recent release Mission Mangal has hit controversy even before it has hit the screens this Independence Day.
A section of Twitter users are calling for boycotting the movie as they claim that a particular scene in the movie is anti-Hindu. Soon the social media platform was buzzing with #BoycottMissionMangal .
It all started after columnist and author Sanjay Dixit took to Twitter saying, "Akshay Kumar turns into a Islamist proselytiser" in the film. He tweeted about a scene in the film that apparently has one of the woman scientist’s son converting to Islam. Dixit tweeted, "Nationalist rock star @akshaykumar turns into an Islamist proselytiser. His latest ‘Mangal Yaan’ has the lead woman scientist’s son converting to Islam, growing beard, doing Namaz and calling Lord Ganesha useless god. Hindus depicted negatively. The tweet soon went viral and user sharing the tweet with the hashtag #BoycottMissionMangal started slamming the movie even without watching it. According to Dixit's tweet, the film ridiculed a Hindu God in one of the dialogues.
Akshay and other stars from the film are yet to react to this latest controversy that their film has landed in.
The film retells the story of India's successful mars mission, Mangalyaan also stars Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Keerti Kulhari and Nithya Menen in lead roles. The film has taken off to positive reviews from critics and have already granered Rs 13 crore already with advance booking sales..
