New Delhi:

Akshay Kumar starrer war drama, Kesari will hit the theatres this week and the actor is seen busy with the promotions of the movies.

Recently, during a promotional interview, Akshay expressed his desire to see the battle of Saragarhi on which the movie is based to be included in school syllabus.

Bombay times quoted, "People celebrate Saragarhi Day in Britain, but here, our children have no idea about the war where 21 Sikh soldiers fought 10,000 invaders, knowing that they will die. They managed to kill 900. We are happy to see fictitious war films but don’t celebrate our real stories of bravery. I hope that the Battle Of Saragarhi will now be added to our history books.”

Sunir Kheterpal of Azure Films who has co-produced the film said that they have got the film’s idea at Saragarhi Memorial at Ferozepur.

The Battle of Saragarhi was fought between the British Indian army's Sikh Regiment and Afghan tribesmen on September 12, 1897. Saragarhi was a tiny village in the then North-West Frontier Province (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan).

The British Indian contingent comprised 21 Jat Sikh soldiers of the 36th Sikhs who were stationed at an Army post and were attacked by 10,000 to 12,000 Afghans.

Led by Havildar Ishar Singh, the Sikhs chose to fight to the death, in what is touted by some military historians as one of history's greatest battles ever fought.

Akshay Kumar will be next seen in Housefull 4 and Sooryavanshi.
