Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar’s combine magic worked on the box-office collection of 2.0. Flagged as India’s most expensive film till date, the sci-fi was released on Thursday. Shankar’s directorial venture also starring Amy Jackson as the female protagonist, the film has managed to cross the Rs 100-crore mark worldwide on its first day.
The film dropped with a magnanimous opening at the box office and earned over Rs 2 crore in Chennai alone on Day 1 of its release. Entertainment Industry tracker Ramesh Bala took to his Twitter handle to share the numbers. He wrote, “#2Point0 has grossed more than ₹ 100 Crs at the WW Box Office on Day 1.. #Superstar @rajinikanth and @akshaykumar 's Highest Opener till date.. All-time No.2 Opening for an Indian Movie behind #Baahubali2.”

The analyst also pointed out, that despite earning a huge amount on the opening day, 2.0 leads behind SS Rajamaouli’s Baahubali 2, which made Rs 122 crore in India alone on the day of its release.
Earlier in the day, analyst Taran Adarsh also revealed that the Hindi version of 2.0 managed to earn Rs 20.25 crore at the box office in India.

Rajinikanth-Akshay starrer 2.0 was one of the most anticipated flicks of the year and the sequel of 2010 super hit film Enthiran. The movie was finally released on November 29 on more than 10,000 screens worldwide. Rajinikanth will be seen reprising the role of doctor Vaseegaran and Chitti while Akshay will be making his South Indian cinema debut with an antagonist role.
Helmed by Shankar, 2.0 received mostly positive reviews from film critics as well as from the audience. The audience gave more preference to the 3D version of the film and some of the shows even started as early as 4 am.
The movie has been produced with an estimated budget of Rs 550 crore. The music of the film has been composed by A R Rahman.
