On the papers, Imtiaz Ali's 'Love Aaj Kal' stars Sara Ali Khan, Kartik Aaryan and Randeep Hood in lead roles. However, when the trailer released weeks ago we were left searching for Hooda in the trailer given how the Highway star was not at all mentioned apart from the one sec hazy imagery of him. So, what’s his role in the much-hyped Sara-Kartik movie? Director Imtiaz has given us the answer! In a snippet of the movie shared by the director himself on Instagram it has come to notice that Randeep is the character Raghu, the guy Kartik plays in his 90s scenes.
Sharing Hooda’s role in Love Aaj Kal movie, Imtiaz shared ‘brother we saved the best for the last :)’
In the short video, we can see Randeep explaining his 90’s love story in a flashback to Sara which is played by Kartik opposite Arushi Sharma as his lover.
As for the much-asked question- whether Love Aaj Kal is a follow-up, director Imtiaz he said it is not a sequel in the typical sense. It rather looks more at the man-woman relationship with changing times.
"I'm not into making part twos or sequels but I realised 'Love Aaj Kal' is the only story of mine which is franchisable in a way. Over the years, I found myself thinking, 'If 'Love Aaj Kal' was made today, this is what would happen'.
"The previous generation was seeking absolutely something else... I have seen this dynamic changing so drastically in the last 10 years. Things that were pious like physical intimacy for a young man or woman... that was the final post. Now it's the first thing, it means nothing now. It's so dynamic. That's how this film came through," he said.
Love Aaj Kal opens in the theatres on Valentine’s Day.
