Richa Chadha might have just started a new hashtag trend, #chupkaroangrezo! For a majority of the Indian household, coconut oil is an ingredient found in almost every kitchen self and eaten it all parts of the country. Hence, for a culture where the use of coconut oil is close to home, saying something in contrast to which many term it as ‘one of the healthiest foods’ isn’t going to go down very light. And that is exactly what Richa Chadha did after a video of a Harvard professor who called coconut oil pure poison caught her attention.
In a video posted by NowThis news, Harvard professor, Karin Michels, can be seen calling coconut oil 'pure poison’ and 'one of the worst foods that you can eat.' According to the video, Michels who is also the Director at the Institute for Prevention and Tumor Epidemiology at the University of Freiburg in a lecture titled, ‘Coconut Oil and Other Nutritional Errors’ claims that coconut oil is ‘pure poison’ , more unhealthy than lard and went on to add that coconut oil have no positive effect on health.

This lecture of myth-busting on what many consider healthy food didn’t sit well with a lot of Indian netizens including actress Richa Chadha. Taking it to Twitter she wrote, “And yet, we've been cooking in coconut oil for centuries ... especially in the south. Maybe the west will ask us to buy it once they package it, like 'turmeric formula'. #chupkaroangrezo".
