Despite being criticised heavily for misogynistic content, Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani-starrer Kabir Singh is minting big money at the box office and is all set to cross Rs 100 crore-mark. Kabir Singh, a remake of the hit Telugu flick Arjun Reddy which was released in 2017, has earned Rs 93 crore at the box-office so far.
According to a report published in Boxofficeindia, Kabir Singh earned Rs 16 crore on Tuesday, taking the total to Rs 93 crore. It is to be noted that as soon as Kabir Singh has been on a record-breaking spree ever since it was released on June 21. After becoming the top opener for Shahid Kapoor and top non-holiday opening film of 2019 with Rs 20 crore, Shahid Kapoor-starrer also broke the record for the biggest Sunday numbers of the year. Toppling Salman Khan-starrer Bharat by Rs 2 crore, Kabir Singh made close to Rs 28 crore.
Kabir Singh, which is directed by Sandeep Vanga, earned Rs 20 crore on Friday, Rs 22 crore on Saturday, Rs 27.7 crore on Sunday and Rs 17 crore on Monday at the box-office.
In the meantime, singer Sona Mohapatra and Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) member Vani Tripathi criticised the film for its misogynistic content. The film glorifies abusive relationship, sexism and misogyny.
Criticising the film’s portrayal of its lead actor, Vani said that misogyny is infectious. Vani further slammed big stars who choose to be a part of such films when they should be leading by example. She even used the hashtag ‘Stop Misogyny’ in her tweets.
Besides Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, Kabir Singhalso stars Arjan Bajwa, Suresh Oberoi, Kamini Kaushal, Adil Hussain, Nikita Dutta and Soham Majum among others.
