New Delhi:

Hindi film industry i.e Bollywood is currently going through a season of biopics. Right from Manikarnika to Thackeray, the year 2019 has seen quite a few of them already. Well, get ready for one more biopic as the film on Kargil hero and Param Vir Chakra recipient Vikram Batra’s life will soon go on floors. Interestingly, actor Sidharth Malhotra will be depicting lead role. The film has been titled as Shershaah.

Directed by Vishnu Vardhan, ‘Shershaah’ is based on an inspiring story of Captain Vikram Batra, who was an Indian Army officer martyred in the Kargil War at the age of 24. He was posthumously also awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honour, on Independence Day in 1999. The film will deal with bravery and valour of Captain Batra.

On Thursday, producer Karan Johar took to his Twitter account and shared the news. He also mentioned that the shoot of the film will begin very soon.

Take a look:

Sidharth will play a double role, where he will portray both Vikram Batra and his twin, Vishal Batra. In an interview with PTI, the actor said, "This is my first biopic and I am super excited for it. He has a brother but the film is predominately about Captain Vikram. We are planning how to cleverly deal with it (double roles). He impacted so many people in the Army. I won't say he is a personality that everybody knows but I felt it was a story that needed to be told. I found his story fascinating,"

‘Shershaah’ is bankrolled by producer Karan Johar and Shabbir Boxwala. ‘Shershaah’ also stars Kiara Advani and is aiming for an early 2020 release. This drama would be quite fascinating to watch and it will also instill a sense of patriotism.

While Sidharth has been prepping for the film for quite sometime, Kiara has been busy shooting for Good News. She will soon be seen in Kabir Singh along side Shahid Kapoor.

Captain Vikram Batra of 13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles had fought in the Kargil War in June 1999 in the Dras sub sector and was instrumental in the capture of Point 5140 on the Tololing Ridge leading to Tiger Hill.

He laid down his life during the subsequent operation of Point 4875, bravely rushing forward to rescue Lieutenant Naveen, a subaltern under Batra. On 15 August, 1999, his father received Vikram's Param Vir Chakra Award posthumously.
