Bengali actor Vikram Chatterjee, who was accused of negligence for a road accident that killed model Sonika Chauhan, has been granted bail by the city court in Kolkata. Reportedly, the actor was granted bail against a personal bond of Rs 1,000. Post his bail, Chatterjee assured that he will cooperate with the police in their investigation into the accident in every possible manner.
Vikram, who was himself injured in the accident, had reportedly surrendered soon after he was relieved from the hospital on Thursday as he was summouned by the police to appear for questioning. The actor was booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 304A (causing death due to negligence) and 279 (rash or negligent driving) by Kolkata Police followed by a complaint by Sonika's family. The model's family has alleged that Chatterjee was under the influence of alcohol which eventually led to the fatal accident.

According to the media reports, the actor was accused of causing death due to negligence, rash driving and causing grievous hurt by endangering personal safety of others. Reprotedly, Chatterjee might end up serving a two year jail term if proven guilty.
Vikram and Sonika's accident took place in the wee hours of April 29. Reportedly, Vikram, who was behind the wheel, lost the balance of the car and rammed it into a shop on the pavement. While Vikrma suffered serious injuries, Sonika died on the spot.
