Subhash Ghai denies rape allegations, says #MeToo is a new fashion

New Delhi:

Bollywood filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who has been accused of raping a woman after spiking her drink several years ago, took to his twitter handle to express his anguish over the attack. He tweeted, “Destiny shows u good times bad times-I m deeply pained 2b gripped in this movement but thank those who know me n my respect I shower to women n their dignity in spite of our cosmetic world we live n react more thru our love affection n respect Now seen in different perspectives" The director dismissed the #MeToo movement as his response to the rape allegation, said it is just another recent trend.

Mahima Kukreja, on Thursday, reshared on Twitter an account originally narrated to her by an anonymous woman, who revealed that Subhash Ghai promised to be her “mentor in the film industry.” She recalled the time when the director allegedly took her to the hotel suite after spiking her drink, and later he raped her. However, Subhash Ghai denied any such misconduct in an interview with PTI. He asserted that ithas now turned a fashion to malign anyone known and to defame them by brining some stories from the past without acknowledging any truth in it. “I deny strictly and firmly all false allegations like these," added the director.

Speaking to PTI, Subhash Ghai also said that he'll sue the survivor for defamation if she can't prove the allegations. "If she claims this way, she should go to the court of law and prove it. Justice will be done or I will go for defamation certainly," said Subhash Ghai.

Meanwhile, on Thursday actor Aamir Khan and wife Kiran Rao issued a joint statement saying that they’re backing out of a project because of sexual misconduct allegations against a team member. The accused is most probably believed to be Subhash Kapoor, who was accused of allegedly molesting actress Geetika Tyagi in 2017. The matter is in court at present. As per a statement issued by Bhushan Kumar to Indian Express, Subhash Kapooor is no longer directing Gulshan Kumar biopic Mogul.
