Taapsee Pannu joined IFFI 2019 for a panel discussion where she addressed several issues like gender pay parity in Bollywood and trolling on social media. While having a discussion with the audience at the film festival, the actress was asked to speak in Hindi instead of English by someone in the audience.
On this Taapsee asked the audience, “Does everybody here understand Hindi?” In spite of this, the man was persistent that the actress speaks in Hindi as she is a Bollywood actress. To this Taapsee responded, “I am also an actress in the Tamil and Telugu industries. Shall I speak in Tamil to you?”
The Badla actress further said that she thinks few actors make that crossover successfully and she doesn't want to leave that position. She also informed that she will continue to work in the South. She said that the South has taught her what film-making is. It made her an actor. So there is a sense of gratitude, that she has. At no point in time, she used it as a stepping stone to get into Bollywood. South Indian films have taught her what light is, what camera is. She cannot leave it.
Meanwhile netizens finding their fodder in Taapsee reply started trending #TaapseeOnFire. The Internet was divided on her reply. While some appreciated how she handled the situation some found her insensitive towards Hindi.
